Celebrating Joel!
Last Sunday we celebrated Joel's birthday a couple weeks early because I was scheduled for surgery one week before his birthday and will be out of commission. As usual he was very involved in the party planning weeks in advance. He decided on a "Science Party" and requested experiments, giving himself "mad scientist hair", a cheesecake with a erlenmeyer flask on it and safety glasses for all of his friends. Philip made a delicious cheesecake and Joel decorated it with a little help, my parents helped with the set up and experiments, and I think the party went off well and Joel was pleased. I can't believe my Joely Poley is almost 6!
Rachel at 9 Months Old
This past week Rachel turned 9 months old! I'm in denial that she's almost a whole year old, and rapidly leaving her baby phase in her rear-view mirror. She is about to take off walking any day and cruises along all the furniture, walks with a push toy or holding your fingers and seems to be thinking about taking steps every time she stands up. Rachel is always exploring and has a knack for noticing if a bathroom door has been left open and crawls as fast as she can toward the toilet! Yuck! We're trying to be in the habit of keeping all doors closed so that she is contained to the living areas and out of the bathrooms and playroom where she could really make a mess or get into trouble.
Lou Lou now has 6 teeth (her top 4 came in all at once!) and she eats whatever we are eating in large quantity and has the cutest toothy grin! You can really tell she likes to eat because she is becoming adorably chubby and has more squish on her little frame every day! She babbles and squeals while she plays and is generally and happy and social baby. Her 9 month check up went perfectly and she is meeting or exceeding all her milestones and growing right on schedule. If she keeps it up she will probably be taller than me (something I never really expected).

NEW SKILLS:
stands unassisted and without something to pull up on
has taken a step but almost always uses furniture to get around or sits to crawl
feeds herself very well

sleeps from 8ish-6ish most nights (YAY!!!!!)
takes 2 solids naps most days (around 9:30am and 1pm)

eating (anything she can cram into her mouth, at the moment I can't think of something she refuses)
drinking water from Mom or Dad's cup
playing in the tub/spa
toys that make noise
minky/plush blankets or loveys

DISLIKES:
having to wait for food
diaper changes (but not always)
not being picked up when she demands
eating off a spoon (unless it's yogurt or something really tasty)
We sure do get a lot of joy from our Rachey Lou and cannot imagine our house without our littlest love crawling around. Our Lou Lou Lemon can make us all smile with a single look; all you can feel is happy when you see those dimples, squishy cheeks, big twinkling eyes and toothy grin. I'm ever so glad to call her mine.

Easter!
We had a lovely Easter this year! It's my favorite holiday for so many reasons. I love how it's filled with hope. Hope in our salvation through Christ and His resurrection, hope in new life (flowers, bunnies, eggs), and hope in new beginnings. I also love Easter candy, decorations, egg hunts and the beauty of Spring time. This year we had pot luck and egg hunt at church on Palm Sunday, and the boys gathered a ton of eggs. The following Saturday we dyed some of our own eggs. The boys had a blast dipping their eggs into all the colors in rapid pace. We dyed 18 eggs in about 5 minutes flat.
On Easter Sunday, the boys received Easter baskets at breakfast, then we went to church as a family and enjoyed adding flowers to the cross during service. I love the picture of Jesus' sacrifice and death on the cross turning something awful into something so beautiful and filled with hope and joy. After church we had what was supposed to be a quick hunt for the eggs we dyed. However, Levi is very competitive and didn't take well to having a hard time finding some of the eggs his Dad hid. A few discussions and time outs later we headed over to my parents house.
There we shared a delicious meal prepared by my Mom followed by time with family, a cascarone war (more crying and fighting from Levi) and a wiffle ball game. Levi was on a roll of fit throwing and cried nearly the entire wiffle ball game about unfair outs, bad pitches, and basically any detail that didn't go exactly how he thought it should. Sheesh.
All that aside, it was a nice day with family. Thank you Lord for giving us hope and love, that's what Easter is all about.
