11 months old!

Today, Nathan is 11 months old. The days are flying by, I wish I could make them slow down just a little bit. I think this may be one of my most favorite stages of babyhood, one year olds are just so cute, sweet and learning cute new trick every day. Nate is such a happy little guy, he is a joy to be around most of the time.

His favorite things right now are balls of any kind, size or shape, animals (especially our Penny) and Levi and Joel's tiny 3-4 inch tall super heros set. He hasn't added any new words this month, but that is because he has been busy working on all his new physcial skills. Since turning 10 months Nathan has started standing unassisted and without pulling up, and walking. A couple weeks ago he started taking steps and now he walks much more often than he crawls. I really need to finish baby proofing the house because he is into everything and has started climbing a bit too.

It's hard to believe that we will be celebrating his birthday in less than a month. I better get started on planning his party!

Joelisms

I have been making note of the hilarious observations and comments Joel makes, and I think the list is long enough now to share. Enjoy :)

As I bounced Nate on my knee: "When I was a baby I hated it when you did that to me. I really hated those bounces. I don't know why you do that."

while cleaning up toys, "I have to make sure and pick up all the small toys so the baby doesn't choke. 'Cause if he choked on them, I might get slobber on my hands the next time I play with them."

conversation with cousin Asher, "J-Asher, you have to be what God wants you to be when you grow up. And, God wants me to be an astronaut. A- God wants me to be a football player. J-Okay, just don't be mean when you grow up. Penny is growed up and she bites me sometimes. I hate it when she's mean, and God doesn't' like it either." {side note, Penny has never bitten any one}

bath time conversation, "L- everyone in our family has the same color skin - kinda a light tan, except for Pop, Me - really? what color is Pop's skin? L- brown, J- That's why I call him chocolate Pop or sometimes peanut butter Pop."

while collecting more rocks outside, "I love rocks, Mom. I'm going to keep my rocks until I go to heaven"

from the backseat "I love Asher, he's my best friend. And he's my family because he's my cousin. I love Nora too, because she has tennis shoes."

talking about learning to swim, "I don't need to learn to swim, I can just wear my life jacket. When I'm 17 I can just keep wearing it and it will be so cool."

buying Philip's father's day gift, "I think daddy wants this long green gum. It's apple, he loves apples. He loves candy and gum. It's just the perfect present for daddy." 5 minutes later in the car, "Mom, I really just wanted to get that gum for daddy because I think he will give me some of it."

Discussing what he learned at VBS, "we talked about Joseph from the Bible. It's a really really old story mom. He died a long time ago and we can't meet him."

I was asking Levi to get his shoes on and he said someone moved them when Joel stated very mater of fact, "Well, was it a turkey?"

While eating watermelon from our garden "these seeds are goners." Philip - what does that mean? "I can't tell you [pause] because I don't know. "

While playing with Nate, "I think we should call Nathan the king of all babies." Why? "He's in charge of our house because he's so cute."

While swimming one evening, "I have a rule. No putting rocks or pieces of bricks in your nose...or ear or mouth or bottom."

Discussing his upcoming first ever soccer season "I'm really a very good soccer player. I can run like a cheetah and I have sneaky moves! I'm going to make lots of points"

Summer Fun!

Now that it's September and we are heading into our 3rd week of school I guess Summer is officially over. I'm actually glad to be moving on to fall because it's my favorite time of year, and I also like having the routine of school to help me stay on task and get more done. However, we had a bunch of fun this summer and I will miss the care free days with my boys home all day. I put several of the "big" fun things we did on the blog, but I want to document some of the ordinary fun we had as well. So, here's our summer in pictures :)
