Field Trip!

I was lucky to be drawn as a chaperone for Joel's first grade field trip this year! The class rode the Grapevine Historic Railway and then went to the park for a picnic lunch and playground time. It was so fun to have a peak into Joel's life at school. He had a blast with his friends and really enjoyed introducing me to everyone, which made me feel special. Maybe next year I'll have a chance to go with Levi on his field trip!

Joel is SEVEN!

Last week our Joel turned 7! He is such a special little guy and I love watching him grow. Joel loves to learn and spends a lot of time thinking and pondering life. Philip and I love listening to his soliloquies on different topics, which most often happen in the car or at meals. At times his rambling can be a little frustrating because I causes him to be slow moving and distracted, but mostly it's endearing. Joel is very smart and enjoys doing things that work his brain, like reading, building with legos or magna tiles, science projects or exploring outdoors. He loves to make things, so he really enjoys cooking, art projects and crafts. He is very creative and that shows not only in his favorite activities, but also his sense of "style." Baseball is his favorite sport and he has really been enjoying playing on a team with his classmates this fall.  He is just about the cutest catcher I ever saw and can really hit the ball for someone so little. I love watching him play!

We celebrated Joel's birthday by having a special breakfast in the morning, brownies with his class at school and then his requests for dinner, spaghetti with meatballs, asparagus, bread and popsicles. That Saturday we celebrated some more with a family party (as we always do on odd years) and met up with grandparents and cousins at Bricks and Minifigs to play with legos and build some custom minifigures and then walked over to Fuzzy Tacos for dinner followed by cherry cheesecake (home made by his dad). He had a blast with his family and loved his meal!

 

I'm sure I have some bias, but Joel is just an extra special little guy and I feel so lucky to be his mom!  He is so unique and the craziest, smartest and most surprising things have been coming out of his mouth for years. I know God has big plans for our boy and I look forward to cheering him along the way!
