Crystal Beach!

For our summer vacation this year we drove down to the Texas coast and stayed for 3 nights in Crystal Beach. We enjoyed this tiny beach town and loved staying in our rented house on stilts just a short walk from the beach. There was no internet and only a few antenna TV channels, so we spent our time there unplugged which was so nice! Each morning, we took our time eating breakfast and then slathered on the sunscreen before walking down to the beach. The kids loved building sand castles and hunting for hermit crabs; we found over 50! After two or three hours digging in the sand and splashing in the waves we would head back to the house for lunch and naps. While the littles napped, the bigs would search for frogs, lizards and crabs in the channel behind the house. They even managed to catch enough blue crab for us to enjoy for dinner one night.

On our way back home we stopped at Seawolf park to see the submarine and battle ship from World War II. The kids enjoyed climbing through both ships and seeing the way Navy soldiers worked and lived. We even had a free private tour by a Navy vet. After the museum stop we grabbed some smoothies which tided us over until a fun stop at crazy Buccees where we grabbed dinner and had a potty break before making the final push home. It was a wonderful vacation! The kids enjoyed each other and the beach very much, which made it enjoyable for Philip and I.
