Birthday at The State Fair

Wednesday was my Dad's birthday. To celebrate My Mom, Sister and her kids, and the boys and I went to the Fair for the afternoon. We had a wonderful time strolling thru fair park and enjoying each others company. The kids were so cute, excited and distracted by all the chaos. Levi and Nora LOVE each other, so they had a blast playing together, riding rides and seeing all the sites. We started off with a Texas State Fair tradition of Fletcher's corny dogs. My Mom is a corny dog connoisseur and in her opinion Fletcher's is the best and a must at the fair :). I must say, they are darn tasty for what they are.

The first event we enjoyed the dog show. All the kids were very excited at first. They were clapping and wiggling and saying screaming hello to the doggies. Even Asher and Joel were amped up and saying dog in their excited voices. Unfortunately the announcer/trainer guy talked on and on and you could barely understand what he was saying in the loud arena. Luckily the show was short and sweet.

Next, we walked over to another State Fair must, if you ask me, the Children's Barn and petting zoo. They had a lot of exotic animals this time including camels, zebra, kangaroos and a giraffe. All the cousins had a blast petting, feeding and talking to all the animals. Joel loved to give all the animals "pats" as he says, which is more like gently hitting. Asher was adorable as he enthusiastically fed several animals all by himself (pretty good for a not quite 2 year old!) and Levi and Nora were quiet the team going from animal to animal with many stops for hand sanitizer.

After lots of fun with the animals we strolled down the midway to the kiddie area to let Nora and Levi ride some rides. They chose some cars, the carrousel and the flying elephants. Man are those rides short and pricey! But, they did have a blast and gave us some cute grins and excited expressions. Levi was excited to be big enough to ride without a grown up and I'm pretty sure he has grown at least 2 inches since his 3 year check up less than 3 months ago!

We finished up our trip with a visit to Big Tex and I'm glad we did because the next night he caught fire got destroyed. Poor old guy had been there 60 years, guess he was probably due for a face lift, right?

Thanks Moe & Pop for taking us to the Fair and giving us lots of treats, memories and fun! Happy Birthday Dad/Pop! We love you so much and are so blessed to have you in our life as a leader and example!

Also, I somehow am just now seeing your triathalon post. Sooo proud of you! Very impressive, and a great time and finish for your first one!
