Way back at Christmas Philip surprised me by putting 2 floor seat tickets to the Coldplay concert in my stocking. Last night we finally used the tickets and man, was the concert fun! It was a HUGE production and much more of a spectacle and more interactive than any concert I've ever attended (including U2 2 years ago). As we walked in they gave each fan a bracelet to wear and when the show started everyone's bracelet lit up in rhythm with the music in a rainbow of colors. The stage was huge and shaped like a guitar and they had quite the laser and light set up as well. During two different songs they had some tissue paper shapes (like oversize confetti) shoot up from the stage and fall from the ceiling at dramatic parts of the song. Huge balloons fell down from the ceiling during another, and during the first encore the whole band popped up in the back middle section of the arena and did 3 songs from there before running through the crowd back to the stage for a few more songs.
They played a great mix of songs from all of their albums and several of my big time favorites. Chris Martin, the lead singer, was friendly and very interactive with the crowd (as he was the first time I saw them) and the drummer impressed us by playing so many different percussion instruments and singing back up as well. It was great to be close enough to see the musicians well and watch them ham it up and be silly. They all seemed to be truly enjoying themselves and also invested in making sure their fans had a lot of fun too. It was so so so much fun and I am so glad Philip surprised me with tickets.
Not only was the concert a huge success, but we went out for a yummy Mediterranean dinner before the show and had only our third date night since Joel was born (thank you for watching the boys Papa and Nana-D!!!). One of the many things I love about Philip is that he knows how to have fun and really let go and have a good time. Every time we get a chance to do something like this it is like we are teenagers again! What a lucky girl I am to have a guy who knows how to get me to relax and have a blast!
